ND Forum on Immigration

On October 8th, 2007, the University is hosting a Forum on Immigration issues.

“This issue will be debated by national leaders, scholars, and students at Notre Dame’s third Annual Forum and at ongoing campus events throughout the 2007-08 academic year. We invite you to get inside the debate with us as we take on this challenging issue. We’ll offer you ways to learn more during the summer so you can stay abreast of the discussions as we head toward the Forum on October 8.”

2007 Regional Meeting

The Alabama club has graciously volunteered to host a 2007 Region 14 meeting in Birmingham over the weekend of November 3rd-4th.  They have tentatively arranged for local alum and ex-NCAA compliance officer Gene Marsh to speak for a bit about some of stories and experiences in that role.  We will also have a game watch for the Navy game that afternoon.

As with last year, we plan to use this meeting to share ideas about how to better serve your local club members.  In particular, I hope to be able to share some thoughts on how to make effective use of the new Irish Online tools.

Please consider having someone (or more than 1 – there’s no limit!) from your club attend.  We need to begin planning logistics soon, and in order to do so we need to get some estimates on attendees.  Please add a reply to this entry, or email me directly, to indicate your initial thoughts and plans.

And certainly – if you have some thoughts on regional meetings or some suggested topics, please feel free to add them in the comments.  This is a public entry: please share your thoughts with the other club leaders who may be reading this!

New NDAA Website

Its a brand new website for the Alumni Association, including a new Irish Online.  This is the site that was talked about (ad-nauseum…) at Senate, and now its here.  Please pass word along to your club members: everyone will need to register to access all of the features.  Unlike the old Irish Online, registering for this site is easy!

NDSA Spring Meeting Notes

Over the weekend of May 2nd, the Notre Dame Senior Alumni board of directors held their spring meeting. Notes from this meeting are available here. Lots of additional information about NDSA (their programs, their board, their resources, etc..) is also available at that website.

If your club does not have an NDSA rep, please consider trying to identify one. The NDSA can provide assistance to your club in trying to get some of the describe programs off the ground in your area. This group is doing some wonderful work, and they are ready to help. Take advantage of them!

Women’s 35th Sports Anniversary

Over the weekend of April 28th, Notre Dame hosted a 35th anniversary celebration for all women’s athletics teams. Over 500 current and former athletes attended to celebrate the achievements of their teams through the years. Pictures, videos and interviews from this event are available here.

Information for you to consider publishing to your clubs:

•  Notre Dame Received the 2007 Academic Achievement Award from the American Football Coaches Association, for achieving a 95% graduation rate for 2001-2002 freshmen.  Read the full story here.
• Rocky Bleier (’68) received the Distinguished American Award from the Football Foundation.  Read the full story here.

Windstorm at ND

Tuesday afternoon, May 15th, a strong windstorm hit the Notre Dame campus.  In addition to significant tree damage, one of the 4 spires on the Basilica of the Sacred Heart was blown down.  A Notre Dame press release with further details is available here.  A YouTube video created by a student showing some of the damage is available here.
